Yesterday, Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion announced that NBA star Klay Thompson, her now ex-boyfriend, cheated on her.

The pair ended what seemed to be a perfect and honeymoon-like relationship that left fans’ jaws dropped. And throughout their time together, Thompson was recognized for his golden retriever qualities.
But don’t forget. Golden retrievers are still dogs.
For those who don’t know, a golden retriever is a boyfriend archetype that represents a likable and emotionally warm man most assume will be loyal and harmless.
But the pattern with golden retrievers is all too familiar. The ‘harmless’ boyfriend begins the relationship doing all the right things for the woman, some months go by, and then he ruins the relationship by stepping outside of it (or making some other trust-shattering decision).
Because of that, golden retrievers basically are gentle boyfriends who make choices that damage relationships behind closed doors.
The disappointment rarely comes from any early-on warning signs. Instead, it follows a period of apparent happiness and perfection, making the betrayal feel less like a mistake and more like a dramatic collapse of expectations — which is what exactly happened between Megan and Thompson.
Even worse, Megan in her original Instagram story explained that Thompson’s apparent reasoning for cheating was the inability to be monogamous.
And if that’s truly the case, then it’s easy to say a man can come into a woman’s life, be the most romantic and supportive partner, and still know he’s a temporary player.
In a statement shared with Page Six, Megan explained that she will not tolerate Thompson’s cheating.
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay. Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward,” Megan said.
Unfortunately, even the best golden retriever boyfriend turns out to be just as disappointing as any other inconsistent man. This news was sad to hear, fingers crossed Megan finds better luck in her next relationship.
